Halloween Spider Chocolate Chip Cookies















 If you are looking for an easy Halloween dessert this one is for you. Use your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and add a little more chocolate details to make spiders.

I always use the Tollhouse Chocolate chip cookie recipe on the back of the bag.

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) - Put aside 1/4 of the bag for the spiders. 


PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. 

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Put cookies on a cooling rack.

DECORATE . while the cookies are still hot add one or two chips on each cookie for the spider bodies.  Let cookies cool for about 2 minutes. Microwave the chocolate chips in a bowl for about 20 seconds. Take out and stir. The chips won't be all melted but that is okay because as you stir it the heat from the bowl will continue to melt the chips. When it is all smooth you can add to a piping bag with a small tip. If you do not have a piping bag and tip you can use a sandwich bag and cut a small hole in the corner.  A toothpick helps to finish off the legs.
